About Meristem

The experience of producing hundreds of stories over our decades in business has taught us an important lesson: Real progress comes from effectively sharing stories.

Doing that has been a privilege. We have the opportunity to travel to every region of Canada. We have worked across the country and often internationally with many players — individual farmers, farm organizations, science and technology researchers, extension services, forestry, water and air stakeholders, corporations large and small, government departments from Federal to provincial to county. We've shared that experience thanks to the help of the writers, graphic designers, photographers and videographers in our network.

Today, Meristem works as a light-on-its-feet network of excellent communicators with diverse skills, focused on communications strategies and content that drive true progress in sustainability.

Terry Hockaday – President and Founder

Terry founded Meristem in 1992 with the communications principles that continue today. He grew up on a mixed farm - an operation he still owns today in partnership with family. With a B.Sc. Agriculture, editorial positions at some of Canada's leading agriculture publications such as Country Guide and Canadian Cattlemen, Terry became a partner in Fieldstone Marketing and Public Relations. Fieldstone is one of the heritage companies of AdFarm.

During his extensive career in agriculture, land use and environmental communications and running Meristem, he has worked with many of Western Canada's farm, land use and water organizations, companies and government departments. He has a particular interest in sustainable systems, conservation and biodiversity in the Canadian landscape.
